Old Photographs of Sedgefield

Collection 2

Courtesy of David Hillerby and Peter Cardno

Circa 1930 showing The Green, Front Street and St Edmund's tower. The Wilkinsons' bus is of the type used to start a service to Blackpool in 1929.

A view of North End looking north. No dating information for this one but sometime in the 1920s seems likely. David has identified the vehicle as based on a Ford Model T and belonging to United.

A view of North End looking south from circa 1910. This photograph was confusing because it showed a church tower (behind the tree on the left) that David and your webmaster didn't believe should be visible from that location.

Puzzle solved; it's St Edmund's Church tower, which can be seen in this photograph of North End taken in 2005.

Earlier than any of the photographs, this painting is believed to date from circa 1900. It shows the last house visible in the c1910 photograph on the east side of North End.

In 1929, Wilkinsons' garage moved to premises on North End, next to the house in the painting. This photograph is from circa 1935.

In 1967, Queen Elizabeth II swept through Sedgefield.

Although the car was moving quickly, Her Majesty is clearly visible in this enlarged section.
