Viruses

How can I make my computer safe from viruses?

The simple answer is that you need good antivirus software installed on your computer and you need to use the Internet to update the software very regularly.

Installing an antivirus program and then not updating it leaves your computer at risk from new viruses.

There are many firms selling antivirus software and also selling the update service. If you buy a new computer you may well get an antivius package included, often with free updates for 3 months. After the free period you have to start paying a subscrition.

You may be surprised to learn that there is at least one firm willing to give their antivirus software for free and allow free updates too. More importantly, it is just as safe and reliable as programs which you pay for.

The firm concerned is Grisoft, their antivirus program is called AVG and the website for downloading it can be found here. The only limitation is that the software is for home, non-commercial use.
