information:

I was born in Hebburn on Tyne but now live in Canada. I spend most of my Internet time browsing the web sites back home. With Mom born in Ferryhill and Dad in Trimdon, I seem to gravitate to the north east, in particular, south Durham.
My sister and I were both evacuated to Mordon shortly after the outbreak of WW2. Being so long ago, I can't remember many details but I know (older sister tells me) the family who we were billeted with were surnamed Robinson who owned a small farm. We both attended a local school which was sectioned into seniors and juniors. The attached photo of the junior class was taken at what must have been late Autumn 1939.
Observing the brickwork, the school must have been old then and probably has since been demolished and replaced but who knows?! I suspect the bairns on the photo consisted of both local and evacuated children. I can't remember how long we were there; maybe just 3 or 4 months at the most. It was during what was called the phoney war because there had been so little fighting and very limited German bombing.
I was searching last night for an old photo of Mordon in an attempt to resurrect some old memories but was unsuccessful. However I thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the other posted photos and following some of the links. I'm finding out things that were never even mentioned during my secondary school days at Jarrow Central.
Feel free to use the photo wherever you wish. I feel honoured that it might be of some interest. Hopefully someone will remember the school's actual name and perhaps remember their grandparents talking about those stressful times. My sister and I were eventually evacuated to Canada.
PS My sister told me the Robinson's had an adult daughter who traveled into Darlington, via the bus, to her work.
