EVENTS

Food for Thought - A multi-cultural experience

Voluntary and community organisations across Sedgefield Borough took part in an Equality and Diversity Event organised by CAVOS, their supporting body, at Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College.

Young people and adults got together in their choice of workshops and explored equality issues around age, disability, sexual orientation, race and religion.

The programme provided something for everyone: presentations, information stands and networking. A crèche was provided for babies and toddlers.

Food and entertainment were special highlights of the day. Participants sampled a selection of cuisine from seven different countries. Later they took part in a workshop conducted by Navrang Arts, a two-sister partnership, who demonstrated movements from Bollywood dance. Men, women and children joined in before sitting down to enjoy a performance of Indian dance.

Sylvia Rochester, Training Officer for CAVOS, commented on the success of the day saying, "We were delighted with attendance. All age groups and a good range of community interests were represented. Attendees said they had come away with a better understanding of other people's views. We are really encouraged by the positive reaction we have had to the day's activities and we look forward to arranging our next community event."
