First Year Success for Bradbury
The community of Bradbury is celebrating the winning
of a Silver Medal in the Small Village Category
of the 2006 Northumbria in Bloom Competition.
The award comes after a year of hard work by nearly every household, under the guiding hand (or was it a whip?) of Dave Sayers. At times the working parties have numbered almost 25 per cent of the population of the village.
The judges' report praised the new areas of planting, the enthusiasm of the residents, the long-term conservation project of an area of woodland and the general colour and quality of the individual gardens. The creation of the Bradbury Horse in topiary merited special mention.
Special thanks go to the sponsors for the village's contribution: P Wilks & Son, B & Q and the Rotary Club of Sedgefield.
Planning for next year's event has already started.
John Burrows
Chairman, Bradbury Parish Meeting
ALL CHANGE AT BRADBURY
There are new faces all round at the Bradbury Parish Meeting with changes to both Chairman and Parish Clerk.
After some 31 years Robert Elders has stood down as Chairman, even in such a small parish many changes have taken place during his time, Robert has always championed the needs of the village and stood up for the wishes of the people of the parish.
Robert took the opportunity to thank all those who had helped during his term of office, the various Parish Clerks and those who had contributed in any way, however small, to the life of the village.
The position of Chairman has now passed to John Burrows, who, as his first duty thanked Robert for his service and commitment on behalf of the people of Bradbury and the isles.
Peter Brewis stood down as Parish Clerk after four years of service; he was thanked by the Chairman who welcomed Ken Pallister as the new Parish Clerk.
The village has been formally accepted as an entrant to the Northumbria in Bloom competition for 2006, regular working parties are taking place initially to remove litter and rubbish. Additional litter bins are being provided, new tubs have been provided at the entrances to the village, holly trees have been planted to replace old trees in front of the chapel and even more bulbs were planted at the end of 2005. Sponsorship has been gratefully received from P Wilks & Son, the Rotary Club of Sedgefield and B&Q. The efforts are adding to the community spirit within the village whilst improving the environment for residents and visitors alike.
MORE ON LITTER REMOVAL
As part of the Environment Agency Action Earth 2006, some residents of Bradbury Village undertook to clean up and litter pick around the Bradbury Services and adjoining woodland.
So, for a few hours on Sat 1st April 2006, 10 members set about cleaning up the area. You can see by the number of bags collected it was indeed a worthwhile job done really well.

The difference was amazing. We have been supported by Mr P Wilks, owner, and this exercise will qualify for a small grant, which will be spent on floral displays fo our entry in this years Northumbria in Bloom.
We were very encouraged by the turnout and this will encourage us to plan more events to really show how the parish can look
